It's been a busy few months, least not for completing my degree (in Internet Technology) and with a 1st no less. I'm pleased, but then honestly i'd probably have been slightly disapointed with a 2:1 if i'd gotten one. The final stages of my degree included rapidly finnishing my final year project, an RSS news system to be used in the department. It was fun, if not slightly stressful and looking back there's always so much more you could have done, but I also learnt an awful lot from it, especially discovering Smarty. God that made my life easier.
Following on with the degree theme, my graduation ceremony is next Thursday, which on one hand will be nice to see everyone, especially `knock, but also a little scary as my degree will be over and i'll no longer by a 'student'. In prepuration for graduation and eventual job related activities i've gotten myself a nice suit and a very swish pair of shoes (thanks to *orangetot). When I get time i'll assemble it all and put some pictures on here. But be assured, I look swish.
For the summer i'm staying here in Southsea still, living with Tom and the very northern Phil. ^blackice and ~voodoochild are in the area but never seem to visit for all thier lies and deceit. Job Applications, CV tweaking all looms close and time presses on. I'm really entertaing the idea of moving to London, which is quite daunting, a few of my friends (from home and uni) are already there, going soon or planning to. So the idea is becoming more and more appealing. Not to mention the gigs..
Ah yes, music, not too many amazing gigs in Portsmouth of late. Although I have been visitin the Frog on the Front occasionally on friday nights when a friend DJ's between bands. The best of which has to be Mistys Big Adventure who sound like, well, it's not easy to explain, but there's 8 or so of them, guitar, drums, bass, keyboard, trumpets, sax, egg wisks, speak and spells. They have an amazing live presence and are touring again near the begining of september, I emplore everyone to go check them out if they get a chance. A great band who need more support.
In non live format i've been listening to some new, some old. Don Cabellaro and Hella are reminding me why math rock is so damn good, i've also been listening to the compilation i made for ~crackthesky many moons ago, it's still nice, as is the one she made. I've had a finnished compilation sitting, in a post bag for ~killabitch for some time, but she doesn't seem to check DA anymore, which is a shame as she'd been waiting half a year or so. New music! Patrick Wolf is amazing, I wish i'd listened to him earlier, Wind in the Wires is a great records. Black Eyes' self titled record is pretty spazzy and good, defiately one that needs to be played loud. The Wolf Parade album is also in rotation, I honestly thought they'd disapeared when all of a sudden there's an album about, it's not bad too. Although look out for it being banded about as the next big indie thing, pitchfork are at it already, and with friends like the arcade fire, the unicorns or modest mouse it won't take much for them to explode.
This has turned into quite the essay of an update. I'd say the usual 'i'll try and update this more regulaly', but that's not all that likely. I'm going to move my attention to my persnal website and try and iron out my plans for an MP3 blog, behind the times now, but i'm missing the radio show effect.
It's hot as hell down here, perfect weather for barefoot pitch and putt, almost swimming in the sea and siting in shade. Enjoy your summers people, they get scarse.
